The hidden costs of a HDTV

You are in the market for a shiny new HD TV, you’ve set yourself a budget, and quite rightly you are trying to get the biggest and best plasma or LCD TV for your money.
In times like these, for most people money is especially tight, so it is wise to make yourself aware of the hidden costs before diving in and making your purchase. For starters TV stands & cables are deemed optional accessories, although in reality you are going to need them. TV stands can be quite expensive, they’re engineered to be sleek and strong, and have become something of a fashion statement in themselves, with desirable models running into £100’s. The cost of electricity is perhaps the most obscured cost however, with a large Plasma TV capable of pulling 1000w from the mains. They’re getting better all the time though, with LCD TVs and the latest Plasma TVs both using around 300w.
It is also worth noting that if you plan on purchasing a Plasma TV from the high street, chances are it won’t fit in your car. Even larger LCD TVs pose a problem, but Plasma TVs have the added nuisance of having to be kept upright. To cut a long story short, if you don’t have a 4×4 or a van your going to have to fork out for courier delivery.
Finally, what’s a HD TV without some juicy HD content to stream through it? This is the major financial downfall of owning HD TVs. You’ll quickly become a HD aficionado, and offerings of a Sky+ HD subscription, Blu Ray player, Xbox 360 /PS3 and a new Media Centre PC hook-up will become completely irresistible!
Even if you have purchased a cheap HD TV, its likely to cost you a fortune in the long run. As long as you know what you are getting yourself in for though then it is worth every penny.
