Again we bring you the latest update of the new HD titles on the market. This time, the dead HD DVD showed that it still has warm blood in it’s veins by releasing more titles than it’s rival, the Blu-ray.

In the following lines you can read what’s the current score on both formats and what new titles are available for each of them.

New HD titles

HD DVD had quite a run there for the past three weeks, but now it’s over as Blu-ray has an impressive list of new releases and catalog titles. The biggest title this week is easily No Country for Old Men, with its impressive 8.5 IMDB score, and sweeping the Academy Awards a few weeks ago taking just about everything including Best Picture.

Other interesting titles include Dogma, I, Robot and the Independance Day, which is highly anticipated title for many HD owners out there. Statistics are telling us that this week Blu-ray family got bigger by 10 new titles and HD DVD got only 3 new titles, which is mighty fine figure for a dead HD format. HD DVD would be bigger by one more title, Jerry Seinfeld shaped “Bee Movie”, but since Dreamworks discontinued production of HD DVD titles and turned “blue”, we won’t see this film in HD soon.

Amazon price cuts HD DVD titles by 57%

Amazon.com on Sat. price cut HD DVD format titles to as low as $8.95 in the latest move to clear remaining inventory of the high-definition product. HD DVD titles The Matador and School for Scoundrels are now available retail for $8.95.

Additionally, a wave of titles are now priced at $9.95, including The Pianist, The Fast and The Furious, Backdraft, Shaun of the Dead, The Big Lebowski, Pride and Prejudice, The Chronicles of Riddick, and The Bourne Identity.

Toshiba last month said it will exit the HD DVD business by Mar. following announcements from Best Buy Co. Inc., Netflix Inc., and Wal-Mart stores that they would back Blu-ray over HD DVD.

Retailers have begun to offer new purchase incentives to move HD DVD product.

Future Shop offers trade-in credit for HD DVD players, will donate old decks to charity

Slowly but surely, we’re seeing retailer after retailer conjure up its own trade-in / exchange program to deal with the finality of the format war. Canada’s Future Shop, however, has certainly put an interesting twist on things. First off, it’ll accept standalone HD DVD players purchased from anywhere until April 3rd.

In exchange, you’ll receive $100 off the purchase of an LG or Samsung Blu-ray / HD DVD combo player, but not a standalone Blu-ray player of any kind. Unfortunately, that means your options are pretty limited, but we can certainly understand the retailer’s desire to wash its hands of anything with an HD DVD logo on it.

Retailers hawks HD DVD titles for $9.99

Retailer Fryâ€™s Electronics this week began offer HD DVD titles for $9.99 in the latest bid to clear inventory of the obsolete high-definition format.

Titles sold at the price point include Sahara, Anchorman, Tomb Raider, Payback, Old School, Sleepy Hollow, and Top Gun.

Toshiba Corp. in Feb. said that it will exit the HD DVD business after losing a two-year bout against Sony Corp.â€™s Blu-ray disc format.

Paramount Kills Entire HD DVD Release Schedule, But No Blu Flicks ‘Til Summer

There won’t be a soft transition to Blu-ray for Paramountâ€”they’re dropping their whole HD DVD release slate right this second. Their last two movies on the dead format hit Tuesday, even though we won’t see Blu titles from them until this summerâ€”that’s months of lost $$$.

The studio’s final two HD DVD releases will be “Things We Lost in the Fire” and “Into the Wild” both coming March 4.

As long as we don’t hear the fat lady sing, we will continue to inform you about the newest titles on each HD side. Let’s see what’s the current HD DVD to Blu-ray ratio and what new titles are available on both sides.

Nothing new, Blu-ray is the winner again with seven new titles while HD DVD keeps to offer three new titles despite all those news about it’s discounting in very near future.

HD DVD offer you can’t refuse

Although under heavy fire, HD DVD still manages to serve heavy punches. What do you say about it’s last offer: $80 for X-Box 360 HD DVD player and 6 HD DVD movie titles?

We wrote already about add-on for X-Box 360 game console in HD FAQ and basically it is an external unit capable of reading HD DVD media. The best thing about it and the very reason why this is the most popular X-Box accessory is in it’s interface – it uses USB port which allows you to connect it not only to X-Box, but to PC and Mac and use it as a much cheaper substitute for internal HD DVD unit.

Heavy blows done by it rival, the Blu-ray disc, caused huge decrease in the prices for this product. So, in short time interval we have witnessed ~~199~~, ~~179~~ and ~~129~~ dollar offers and now the price is just $79,99 for the unit plus 6 HD DVD movies, which is a real bargain.

Unfortunately, this offer is no longer active since they are sold out, but I believe that we will soon see many more interesting offers with “Wow” prices.

New month – new releases of HD movies. Again we have a few times more Blu-ray releases than those on HD DVD, but latter format still gets new titles, despite of many unfavorable offers we read about these day. Let’s see what new titles we will soon watch in HD and what’s the current count of titles on both sides.
